Why are the elements important?
When people first come to astrology they often usually just read their horoscope which is based on their Sun sign, out of a local newspaper, or, magazines. This, however, is not even half the story when it comes to figuring out what makes you~”YOU” using astrology, and as well as your zodiac sign you also need to know which element this corresponds to. There are 12 astrological signs and 4 elements, namely fire, earth, air, and water, and therefore these are evenly split with 3 astrological signs per element. In professional astrology, these are known as the ‘triplicies’.
Why are the elements important?
The elements can give you a deeper understanding of your own personality once you understand the characteristics of each one. They are also important if you want to better communicate with and understand those around you. There is more to this, for example, I'm a Capricorn, with a Virgo rising (ascendant) BUT...my north node is in Gemini! I have more Gemini tendencies & my life can attest to this fact that's for sure!! You are so much more than a simple sun sign!!
Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius):
Fire signs are pretty much as you would expect on the surface which is full of energy, power, and strength. They are usually creative types and they will have hundreds of ideas or projects on the go at one time. The Fire signs start with the first sign of the zodiac which is Aries and they are forward thinkers who like to set trends for others. Due to their fiery nature, they make great leaders but are not as comfortable being followers. This is lucky as people are naturally attracted to them and they have a huge amount of charisma without even trying.
On the flipside, this makes them often come across as arrogant and they love to be in the limelight, sometimes a little too much so that they may have trouble sharing the spotlight with others.
In relationships, those born under the element of Fire will have a strong independent streak and they will not like being told what to do or feeling constrained in any way. Fire signs are usually also brave people who have a lot of courage and will stand up for themselves and others. They are naturally proud and it can be easy to make them lose face which will cause a tantrum. It can also be difficult to shake their confidence in themselves but if you do then this can cut very deeply as they are used to being in control and marching to the beat of their own drum. In astrology, Fire signs rule our essential life force and our inner power.
Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn):
Those born under the Earth element care about roots and foundations. Earth signs want to build from the ground up so they love to start new business or create new products. This makes them fantastic project people so if you are looking for a steady business partner then look for an Earth sign! People born under this element make things happen and they love nothing more than turning an idea into reality. They are also slow and steady in their approach so they will be great at drafting plans and ticking all their items off a to-do list. Not only do they thrive when they are building something from scratch but they also love to see things completed so they are not the kind of people to leave a job half done.
Earth signs are responsible and down to earth and they are practical when faced with a problem. You can expect an Earth sign to always be realistic but this can make them cautious or unduly conservative and they may look for problems rather than on the positive side of things. They are also usually good with resources so they hate to waste time or their precious money, which can also make them come across as a little stingy at times. It is not that they are mean, but simply that they work hard for a living and they are careful about how they use their funds.
One thing is for sure, you won’t find a more loyal friend and they also have an abundance of natural patience which makes them naturals as parents. In this sense they are also the great providers or builders of the zodiac signs.
Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius):
If Fire signs are the trendsetters and Earth signs the providers then Air signs are definitely the communicators. They are often looked at as being natural intellectuals as they have a restless (some would say flighty) energy that makes them constantly curious about the world. Eager to always try new things and find new paths to go down, Air signs sometimes seem like they can’t keep still. As you would expect, they are expert communicators to the point where they will often talk a mile a minutes and they are quick witted and easily adaptable.
Those born under the element Air are usually really sociable people and are the life and soul of any party of social event. Despite this, they are objective and have a great sense of natural fairness and justice (particularly Libra, the sign of the Scales). If you want to weigh up the pros and cons of any problem then just ask an Air sign, they will be able to give you a list before you have even finished asking the question!
An Air sign is above all interested in analysis and rational thought, particularly when this comes to using information to get to the center of a difficult problem. Because they love to communicate you will often find that Air signs gravitate to jobs or roles where communication is front and center, so they may be journalists, lawyers, or public speakers- anything where they can get their message across to others.
They have a rather unfair reputation for having their head in the clouds, and this is not really true, as they are very practical people, it’s just they also have a tendency to dither when they are making decisions which can make them seem flaky.
Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces):
If you think a little bit about this element you will quickly understand those born under a Water sign. Sometimes they are like a gentle country stream and sometimes they might hammer you like a crashing wave. Water signs almost always have hidden depths, things that they hide away from others far beneath the surface. This means that they can often surprise you with their moods and their observations.
Those born under this element tend to come across as shy or emotionally reserved because they bury their feelings deep within. If you want to form a connection with them then this will take longer than it would with a sign born under another element, but once they let you in they will be loyal to you for life. When they care about others they do so 100% as there are no half measure with Water signs. This means that they are sensitive, sentimental, nostalgic, and romantic, but they are also easily wounded and it is very easy to accidentally crush their feelings. As such, tread softly where a Water sign is concerned.
Interestingly, those born under this element often have psychic powers (this is particularly true of the sign of Pisces) as they are just so naturally intuitive and they can see below the surface of many things. This element is strongly linked to the soul and these people who are ruled by Water often go with their gut instincts and are led by their emotions. This is great for when their emotions steer them in a positive direction but it can also make them moody and difficult to predict at times.
Again, you are so much more than the above, you have to take your natal chart as a whole & only then can you know your natal promise! Positive thinking works when it comes to Astrology, but trust me, if the promise in not in your natal chart when born, no amount of positive thinking will make it different!
