What are the Conjunctions of Pluto and Saturn?
In astrology, the cycles of the planets are used to make predictions about what will happen in the future. This applies to all the planets such as the Moon when it orbits around the Earth as well as the Earth when it moves around the Sun. In astrology, we then also look at the cycles of the other planets and how they move around each other and these cycles are linked to ideas about what will come to pass.
Every cycle of planets has a different meaning in astrology and some of them repeat through the ages. An example of this would be the planets Pluto and Neptune which are in conjunction every 492 yrs and almost always in the sign of Gemini. Another example would be the planets Uranus and Neptune which are in conjunction every 172 years and usually conjoin twice in the same zodiac sign and then do so again in the sign that follows that. An example of this would be in 1993 when these planets conjoined in Capricorn and in 1821 when they also conjoined in the same sign. Other planets like Saturn and Jupiter meet in conjunction every 20 years and these are part of a sequence of conjunctions that fall in the same element every 200 years, creating another pattern or cycle. One of these cycles is a conjunction in the Air element which will start in late 2020 and will then last for the next 200 years.
Different cycles also move through various signs of the zodiac which means they take on a unique meaning every time. A cycle such as Saturn and Pluto took place in the sign of Cancer in 1914, Leo in 1947 and Libra in 1982. Pluto, however, has a variable orbit which means that the conjunctions are not regular and we will see another one in Capricorn in 2020.
Constructive or Destructive?
The planet Saturn is known in astrology for being linked to the structure of society and Pluto is linked to the formation of existence when energy became physical matter. As such, Pluto is still linked to the energy of light in this matter which is why, when the energy of Pluto is set free, it is so powerful. It is also no coincidence that Pluto was discovered in the year 1929 which was also when scientists worked out how to split atoms and this also led to the discovery of atomic bombs.
For this reason, the energy of Saturn and Pluto is completely different. One of them (Saturn) is a constructive energy which stores its power and the other (Pluto) is destructive and releases power and energy. When we have a Saturn and Pluto cycle we often see creation or destruction in society or in countries and nations.
Examples of the creation and destruction of States:
The Thirty Years’ War which took place in Europe began and finished when there was a Pluto and Saturn conjunction. The first of these happened in 1618 in the sign of Taurus and the final one happened in 1648 in the sign of Gemini. This time in history touched all of the main nations in Europe.
One of the best and most modern examples of this conjunction in action was the creation of Israel which took place in 1948 when there was a conjunction of Pluto and Saturn in the sign of Leo. In the period that followed the Holocaust, the Jewish survivors and Zionists met in Palestine to form their own state which then prompted the war with other Arab states. At the time of the formation of Israel, we can see all the elements of a Pluto and Saturn conjunction which goes back to the times of the Bible and includes the destruction of a people and then the resurrection of their nation. Another example would be the countries of Pakistan and India which were formed as different states when there was a Pluto and Saturn conjunction in 1947 in the sign of Leo. This conjunction was also influential when China was becoming a Communist country after the Second World War.
The purpose of this conjunction in the heavens is to shake up political systems which are no longer working well such as the colonial period in India in the previous example. These then leave room for something new and better to take their place which is the result of a period of struggle. Millions of people died during the clash between India and Pakistan as well as during the period of civil war in China.
The Pluto and Saturn conjunction is a time of difficult births but we also need to look at the various phases within this cycle which also have a destructive quality. This is usually marked by a challenge to recognized authority and the disruption of society. One historical example of this would be 1898 when there was a Saturn and Pluto opposition which led to the Spanish-American War which started in the Havana Harbor in Cuba and then escalated. This happened when Saturn was in Sagittarius at 11 degrees and Pluto was in Gemini at 12 degrees, and almost fell exactly on the Ascendant and Descendant of the chart of the United States. Pluto was in Sagittarius at 12 degrees and Saturn was in Gemini at 14 degrees on September 11, 2001, when the World Trade Center was attacked and this marked the start of the War on Terror which has led to prolonged conflict across the Middle East for years.
At the time of writing, a Saturn and Pluto cycle usually takes 37 years to complete and the most important or marked parts of this cycle are when there is a conjunction, square or opposition. We saw a square in 2009 to 2010 in the signs of Libra and Capricorn and this was also the time of the devastating earthquake in Haiti as well as the moment when the financial instability in Greece started to impact the rest of Europe. There was also another Saturn and Pluto square which happened in 1993 and which was at the same time as the disintegration of Yugoslavia and the formation of new nations in the Balkans.
What if you have Pluto-Saturn aspects in your chart?
If you have Pluto-Saturn aspects in your astrological chart then you will have some issues when these aspects occur, and especially in the time that follows them. Following the conjunction in Leo which happened in 1947, there were a number of new strategies that came out about how to discipline children for example. When we saw the Pluto-Saturn conjunction in Libra in 1982 to 1983, this brought with it the end of the Cold War, this also affected children and how they related to their parents. This is the clash that is brought about when we have Pluto and Saturn aspects which usually cause issues with authoritarianism and power struggles between youth and their elders. Many children who grow up at this time often feel as if they have no power, even as adults.
A Pluto-Saturn Conjunction in 2020:
We saw Pluto-Saturn conjunction in 1914 and then again in 1947 and 1982. The next one will be in 2020 in the month of January and in the sign of Capricorn. Not only does this conjunction feature Saturn and Pluto but Jupiter will also be in the mix and we will see a spread of energy across 20-25 degrees in the sign of Capricorn. This will last until the end of 2020 causing stressful feelings. This kind of pattern does not happen often and we will see Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius in the month of December 2020 as well as a conjunction with Pluto. As we can see from history, this will bring with it a time of instability and conflict. We can’t know exactly where these will occur but if we look at the astrology there are some clear indications of the problem areas.
Europe and the breakup of the EU:
The astrology shows that the European Union as we know it is falling apart. This is obviously linked to the referendum in the United Kingdom which happened in 2016 and rattled the other countries in Europe. The charts now show us that Europe is going to turn inwards on itself and try not to let this affect it. The Single European Act was created on November 1st, 1993 and this chart shows us that there is the Moon in Taurus which is opposite Mars and Pluto in the sign of Scorpio. When we had Brexit, when United Kingdom voted to leave Europe, the MC axis was conjunct with this opposition which caused conflict and drama.
Scotland and the push for Independence:
Scotland may choose to have another referendum to decide if it wants to be an independent nation. England and Scotland were joined together on May 11, 1707, and at that time, looking at the chart; Mars was in Cancer at 20 degrees and was square to Neptune which was in Aries at 22 degrees. When Pluto is in opposition to this, and then Saturn and Jupiter, it could cause a lot of conflict. If we do a progressed chart for the Sun then we can see that it will be in Aries at 0 degrees in 2020 and this is also then followed by a progressed Moon which points to Scotland seeking independence.
We may also see issues with Northern Ireland which has a border with the South of Ireland which is part of the European Union and which would need to be reinforced. This will cause problems with Catholics in the north of the country and this is linked to the chart of the separation of Southern Ireland from the rest of Britain which happened on December 7, 1922. At this time, the Moon was in Cancer at 23 degrees so we will see a pattern of conflict and separation happening again.
The Middle East and conflict in Saudi Arabia:
The Middle East will have some issues as well, particularly Saudi Arabia. If we look at the chart of Saudi Arabia for the time when the capital city Riyadh was captured and unified with the rest of the territory, we can see that Saturn was in the sign of Capricorn at 19 degrees and the Sun and Jupiter were in Capricorn at 23 and 24 degrees. Saudi Arabia declared independence on September 23, 1932, and at this time we saw a Pluto-Saturn opposition in Cancer at 23 degrees and Capricorn at 28 degrees which means that the chart will be activated. This could mean that we see the fall of the Saudi royal family at this time and the Kabba which is located in Mecca will be changed somehow. In the following three years, there will be conflict and discontent across the land of Saudi Arabia.
The United States and the Pluto Return:
The United States will have a rocky time in 2020 with the return of the planet Pluto and a conjunction of Saturn, Jupiter, and Pluto which will activate natal Pluto in the United States’ chart in the sign of Capricorn at 27 degrees. This could relate to things like conspiracy theories, large companies with shady business practices and money laundering or hidden finances. More on that as the time draws nearer. The feeling in the air at that time will be one of paranoia, distrust and hidden agendas as we also have shadowy Neptune in the mix which is causing everything to operate in a kind of fog where no one can see the truth.
When we have the USA Pluto Return it’s likely to cause financial scandals and we may find out about previously unseen economic issues which were hidden from view. We could see that the old ways of doing things in terms of economics crumble now and are replaced with new financial systems. As the government fails, so too MAY economic fortunes in the United States. Pluto tears down structures that no longer work & builds them back up in better ways! Leading up to the Saturn-Jupiter conjunction in the sign of Aquarius, government institutions will seem to be oppressing the population more and more. There will be a sense of tension and distrust caused by the Saturn-Jupiter conjunction with Pluto which the government will try & fail to harness and use as an excuse for added measures of control and monitoring of the population. From 2021 there will be new ways of doing things in the United States and social media will cause people (as they are now) to rally together and oppose each other. Different ideologies will butt heads and jostle for power and people will step up to mobilize against governments and ruined financial institutions. If it sounds intense, then that is because it will be! I will post more as time comes closer!
Stay tuned 🙂
